Is a Canon EOS Rebel XSi with an 18-55mm 3.5 lens a good camera to start off wedding photography?
wedding photography is something I wanna try. i don’t know if i would want that as my specialty yet. i usually take pictures to make memories, nothing serious; landscaps, random stuff, people, buildings, and places.
my friend asked me to do their engagement photos and be the back up to the primary photographer at their wedding..thanks!
It’s ok if you’re just taking snaps & are not the official photographer, but it’s nowhere near good enough if you are consider being the primary photographer.
To shoot weddings you need;
- two DSLR camera bodies (one as backup)
- fast lenses for low light where flash can’t be used – something like 50mm f.8, 85mm f1.8 or 24-70mm f2.8
- at least 2 speedlights
plus the knowledge & skill to use this all on manual settings – you don’t shoot weddings in Auto.
When you do shoot at the wedding, whatever you do DON’T get in the paid photographers way – he’s there to do a job & get paid for it – amateurs getting in shots or confusing the guests will NOT be appreciated!
